The premise of the movies has been death trying to "balance the books" with peoples lives, but in this installment murder would let someone take the remaining days of someone else's lives but by that logic even if they did nothing and death took them there would still be an imbalance of the time from the disaster to the time of the accident, therefore making it impossible to reach an equilibrium in "time left to live.
